In the year 2020, Notaries should be using the entire 4 digit year when notarizing documents. This is so that the year can not be changed or altered. If you simply put 1/9/20, there is the possibility that an additional 2 digits could be added to the end of the year, back-dating or forward-dating the document, which is illegal.
Notaries are advised to use the full year, 2020, on all of their acknowledgements, jurats, and any other requested notarial acts.
This is not only for notaries, everyone should be using the full year 2020 on any checks, financial, legal and real estate documents, really any critical documents to deter fraud and ensure back-dating and forward-dating does not occur.
